Verizon Wireless logoVerizon Wireless has just received the Small Business Influencer Champion for 2011 Award from Small Business Trends and SmallBizTechnology.com. The wireless company was recognized for its continued support of small businesses, as well as their owners, and accepted the award at a ceremony which took place on September 13, 2011.

According to Executive Director of Verizon Wireless Michael Schaefer, “One of the value propositions from Verizon Wireless is deep expertise in the SMB area, and we understand the vertical markets in which they are competing. We have always been focused on supporting this specialized customer base by not only providing stellar services, but also educating on how to best leverage smartphones, tablets and 4GLTE to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs. Receiving this award is a validation of our business vision.”

The Small Business Influencer Award is a joint initiative by Small Business Trends, which is an online magazine that serves over 2,000,000 small business owners, stakeholders and entrepreneurs every year, and Small Biz Technology, a media company that educates growing businesses on strategically using technology as a tool to grow their business.

The award recognizes any person, organization or company, like Verizon, who has made a meaningful and lasting impact on the North American  small business market. Verizon Wireless was selected as one of one hundred winners from more than 520 nominees.

Roman Ray, founder of SmallBizTechnology.com, added, “In this day and age, it is almost impossible to run a business without utilizing technology on a certain level. We’ve worked with Verizon Wireless for several years and we’ve seen firsthand how much they influence the small business communities by bringing great services and taking the time to educate SMB owners on how to use them.”

However, Verizon Wireless doesn’t stop at supporting small businesses across the country. The company is also committed to preventing and raising awareness about domestic violence via community efforts. HopeLine from Verizon collects used cell phones, recycles them and donates the proceeds in the form of cash grants and pre-paid wireless phones to advocacy groups for use by survivors.

Intuit and Verizon Release GoPayment App for Small Businesses

August 26, 2011 by Zack Duncan Leave a Comment

GoPayment AppIntuit Incorporated, along with Verizon Wireless, has just announced the release of Intuit’s GoPayment app as well as its pocket-sized credit card reader, both of which will be available in Verizon’s 2,300 retail stores and business-to-business sales channels.

Basically, this means that Verizon has endorsed a competitor to Square, the credit card reader that works in conjunction with the iPhone from Apple. GoPayment is aimed at small-to-medium sized business and is used to process credit card payments on smartphones as well as tablets.

The card reader plugs into the audio jack of your mobile device and then the card can be swiped or manually entered into the GoPayment app. The transaction is immediately processed and funds are deposited into the bank account of the user automatically within a few business days. The app itself is available on Android, Blackberry and iOS devices.

Customers of Verizon can get a free card reader by activating a GoPayment account and then taking advantage of the mail-in rebate for the $29.97 price. If you purchase a smartphone specifically for GoPayment, you are required to subscribe to Verizon’s Nationwide talk plan which starts at $39.99 per month. In addition to that, you will also need a data plan which starts at $30 per month for 2GB of data.

The GoPayment app is free with no monthly subscription fee but a 2.7% charge for every swiped transaction will be incurred. A paid version is also available for $12.95 per month at a rate of 1.7% for every swiped transaction. In addition to that, Intuit is offering Verizon customers two months of free service if they select GoPayment’s paid monthly plan.

According to Executive Director of Verizon’s Business Solutions Group Mike Schaefer, “Intuit’s GoPayment on America’s most reliable network is a mobile transaction game changer and brings another dimension of must-have technology to the small business community. Payments and transactions are often the biggest hurdle businesses face. Our value proposition is to streamline, simplify and enable business owners to get paid with minimal delay. This collaboration with Intuit is an important part of our strategy to bring the most innovative online and mobile tools to our customers.”
