$20,000 in Grants Awarded to Four Small Businesses by Sears Holdings
Sears Holdings recently committed to an economic empowerment plan for the Hispanic community of America and as a part of its commitment the company has announced the four winners of Tu Empresa, Tu Futuro/Your Company, Your Future Business grant competition. This program was launched last year during Hispanic Heritage month in order to encourage small business owners to follow their dreams of economic prosperity.
In order to help generate interest and support for Your Company, Your Future Business, Sears Holdings joined forces with Cristina Saralegui, a respected journalist and entrepreneur. Saralegui also launched her own Casa Cristina bed and bath collections at Sears and Kmart last year as well.
According to Saralegui, “As an entrepreneur, I understand that business grants like this are more than a financial handout. That’s why I feel privileged to have played a part in this program by bringing awareness for such an important initiative. This is an investment in someone’s future and dream. These grants say ‘we believe in you’ and empower entrepreneurs to succeed.”
Small businesses represent 99.7% of all employer firms and with that being so, this grant competition is an opportunity for Sears Holdings to support growth in this area. According to Tayde Aburto, a business owner and one of the four recipients of the grants, “My company focuses on the usage of internet as a business tool – The Hispanic Chamber of E-Commerce. With this grant, I will not only be investing in my business’ future but in the future of more than 1,000 current chamber members.
Sears holdings handed out a total of four grants for the program in the amount of $5,000 each. The four recipients were:
- Tayde Aburto – The Hispanic Chamber of E-Commerce
- Jennifer Burrell – The Frock Shop
- Elizabeth Tarpley – Targeted Tech Solutions
- Kristen Harris – Party Palette
